  • This map is a representation of world-wide literacy rates out of 100, and shows that the majority of countries that have low literacy rates are located in Africa. These countries also have some of the highest poverty rates which demonstrate correlation between a country's economy and their literacy rate, which is why the developed countries are a light pink color.

  • This choropleth map supports the claim made above since the majority of African Countries are living below the universal poverty line of $1.90 each day. The data is shown by total percentage of population(1% - 100%) in that country that lives below this poverty line.This demonstrates a positive correlation between poverty and the quality of education (literacy rates) which a country has.
